So I Tried... Injustice: Gods Among Us
Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. I went for the PC version of Injustice: Gods Among Us.
What I thought it was
I knew it was a beat ‘em up, mainly because it’s based on comic book superheroes and they’re kinda my thing. There’s a comic being published that’s based on the game, so I went in expecting to play a similar storyline - Superman kills Joker, Batman gets a group together to stop Superman and Wonder Woman from ruling the world...
What it actually is
An incredibly difficult to control game when using a keyboard.Yes, it’s a beat ‘em up, but I played it for half an hour and didn’t manage to finish the tutorial. It wasn’t a long tutorial - I just couldn’t play it! My computer isn’t the most beastly of machines, so the graphics were incredibly toned down. I mean, it literally looked like I was playing Mortal Kombat on the SNES. However the game handled very well and the environments were excellent. Batman and Superman looked alright, but nothing too special at such low resolution.
But the controls… Man they were horrible. My key presses were instantly responded to, so I have no idea why D+T, G, and Tab wasn’t doing whatever move that had to be. No matter how many times I hit the combo.
Will I keep playing
Heck no. I’m very glad I picked this up on the Steam Free Weekend. I’ll get it on console, if it’s cheap enough, but I’m in no rush. The environmental knock throughs were funny, but not enough reason to get the game at full price. I’m not a beat ‘em up kind of guy, after all.
I liked to spam Eddy Gordo’s kicks in Tekken 3, but that was my friend’s copy of the game. I played Mortal Kombat 1 & 2, Street Fighter 1 & 2 (yes, I said 1) - but it was never a genre that ever made me think “This is awesome.”
So yes I will play this, but it won’t be on PC and it won’t be for a long time yet.
