So I Tried… Wolfenstein: The New Order

Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PC version of Wolfenstein: The New Order.

What I thought it was

A first person shooter where you kill Nazis. Honestly, I’m a bit vague on things, but I know the general stuff. BJ Blazkowicz, Nazis, guns… With Wolfenstein II coming out, I figured I should get up to date on the series.

What it actually is

A fast-paced first-person shooter where you kill Nazis. Of course, I didn’t realise it was set in an alternate history, where World War II had continued past 1945, and crazy scientists were building giant robot dogs. Amongst other crazy things, of course. BJ Blazkowicz is part of the all-out assault on Dr Deathshead’s castle, with several planes and dozens of troops, when things go wrong. Though I don’t suppose any frontal assault on a Nazi castle can go right…

Will I keep playing

Yes, after all of the hassle I went through to get it to work, I will. I had to follow the steps I found on the Steam Community to get it to actually load the game when I hit play, which was annoying, but the gameplay is fast and fun. I know I’ve come down on shooting Nazis in videogames in the past, because there’s only so many times you can shoot a Nazi before you’ve depopulated Germany, but this is an alternate history. So it doesn’t count. Shut up and let me continue shooting Nazis…
