So I Tried… The Masterplan
Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PC version of The Masterplan.
What I thought it was
I honestly couldn’t remember what this game was about, so rather than putting nothing other than “uhh, something bad?”, I chanced a look at the Steam store page. It’s a top-down game where you have to plan a heist, or something. Like I said, it was a glance.
What it actually is
You’re arrested and wake up in jail, and have to escape - which you do thanks to a plastic gun hidden inside a cake! Once free, you and your mate have to build up a nice nest egg by robbing cafés, corner shops and the like. This involves painstaking planning and preparation, and definitely not aiming your fake gun at the store owner, beating him unconscious, and hoping the bystanders stay still while you raid the cash register and back room… Seriously, who would play the game like that?
Will I keep playing
Okay, so I’m not very good at this whole “make the plan, execute the plan, expect the plan to go off the rails, throw away the plan” deal… I think things are going fine, but then I forget to switch the guy from holding his gun to fighting for his life - and have to restart because the cops arrived. It looks good, and I’m sure it’s fun for someone more methodical than me, but planning takes so long… I’m more a fan of instant gratification, than in it for the long haul, so The Masterplan isn’t for me.
