So I Tried… The Crew
Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PC version of The Crew.
What I thought it was
A racing game set in an open world, which is literally the USA. It’s very uncommon for a racing game to grab my interest, but not being set on a track is an immediate head turner. However, since it’s a driving game (and I’m not a fan of them due to being awful at them), I never picked it up -- then Ubisoft gave it away, and I got some PC upgrades… and here we are.
What it actually is
The best racing game I’ve ever played -- move over Need for Speed Most Wanted! It’s like Ubisoft took Watch_Dogs and just removed everything to do with Aiden Pierce and hacking (and made the protagonist look like Gordon Freeman). Alex (the aforementioned Freeman knock-off) is part of a driving club called the 510s, and gets put in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. When he gets out, he wants revenge -- and the first thing he does is get a 2012 Dodge Challenger, because man I like that car… After that, he has to compete in races across America, join up with other players (real people, not playas) and climb the ranks of the 510s to get his revenge. Also, get bounced around by trains without dying… Open world cities means trains…
Will I keep playing
I am pretty sure I will play the hell out of this game. I had a lot of fun racing, and I’m looking forward to unlocking more upgrades and more cars in my race across America. I’m hoping to be run over by a train in every state.
