So I Tried... RoodyMental: Rhythm RPG
Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never played before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time, I am switching it up and trying out a mobile game called RoodyMental: Rhythm RPG.
What I thought it was
Before I started playing RoodyMental: Rhythm, all I knew was that this was a mobile rhythm game made by a company that is based in the same city as me. I am always excited to check out titles made here at home, so I was very excited to jump in and try this one out! Plus, having a game to play on my phone when I’m stuck waiting for appointments or while on a break at work is great!
What it actually is
RoodyMental: Rhythm is a lot more than just keeping time with the music. This is a rhythm game mixed with an RPG set in a world trying to recover from a devastating pandemic. If that wasn’t bad enough, an A.I. threat known as the AiPOCALYPSE is trying to eradicate all of humanity. So it is up to you to destroy the A.I. mines trying to destroy the world of Aideate. To do this, you will be controlling two weapon systems, both of which are fully customisable and upgradable to fit your playstyle; one is placed on the left-hand side and the other on the right. Using these, you will learn the enemy's rhythmic pattern and blast the blocks that are moving up from the bottom of the screen. You can’t go crazy trying to tap all the targets as fast as possible; you will have to do this in time with the music. As you complete levels, you will move along the map to the next location, where you will find a new puzzle to challenge. In between, you will have a chance to visit the store to purchase new upgrades or items to use by spending in-game currency or real money.
Trying to play the game without headphones or the sound off is pretty much impossible. Trust me, I have tried. I thought I would be able to just tap on the blocks as they passed across the line, but you can’t time it right and will fail. So make sure you have your earbuds or headphones with you when you are ready to play unless you are somewhere where you can turn up your sound.
Will I keep playing
I will definitely continue to play RoodyMental: Rhythm on my phone, well, for the times when I have my headphones or I can turn up the volume! It is addictive, has catchy music, and works great to play when you have a bit of time to kill, plus it entices you to come back since you have to make sure to sign in every day to get your daily rewards. The game is great for remembering exactly where you left off, so it is incredibly easy to jump right back in and continue on the level you were last challenging. If you enjoy rhythm games that feel more like an RPG and consist of more than just keeping time with the beat and require some strategy to be successful.
RoodyMental RPG is available to download for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
