So I Tried… Peggle
Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PC version of Peggle.
What I thought it was
From the icon and name, I figured it was some kind of connect-the-dots game. Or a match-3, maybe even a bubble-shooting game. That’s right, I never actually played this eight year old game, despite it appearing on no fewer than ten different platforms. I was busy, alright? Probably on Super Mario Galaxy or… Assassin’s Creed maybe…? Man, 2007 didn’t have many good games, did it…?
What it actually is
You have to shoot balls from the top of the screen, hitting different coloured pegs and blocks beneath. To win each level, you must hit all of the orange ones, though any you do snag disappear after the ball has finished dropping. There are power-ups, which change according to the ‘Peggle Master’ you’re playing under. I finished one world and about four levels of the next one, so I only got to see two of them in action, but I assume the other worlds have other powers.
Will I keep playing
It’s fun enough, at least to keep me entertained for half an hour. And since it’s small, it isn’t really going to clog my hard drive enough to warrant being removed. There is a challenge in most of the levels, despite how easily the first few can be completed. Some of the levels are quite tricky, but despite turning me off from ever playing the game (as most difficult games do), I find myself wanting to beat the game. So yes, I will continue to play.
