So I Tried... Nine Sols

Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never played before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. For this challenge, I am trying out Nine Sols, a game that I have been watching since it was announced. It is now on Xbox Game Pass, so now is the perfect time to give it a try.

What I thought it was

I have been interested in Nine Sols since I saw the first trailer released for it. The game has a beautiful look to it, and the main fox-like character seems mysterious and strong. I think this protagonist might have an interesting backstory to tell! I hope this title has a good story that measures up to the quality of the artwork presented.

What it actually is

Nine Sols is a challenging platformer with precise controls and a surprisingly dark and intense story. Sure, the main character may look cute, but in reality, Yi is a murderous killing machine! I can’t believe everything that happened in the first half hour of the story. It is incredibly engaging, and the combat is very rewarding, especially when you learn new moves that you select on the skill tree.

Will I keep playing

This is a game I will definitely keep playing. It is so good; between the gorgeous look of the game accompanied by a haunting soundtrack and an intense story, I can’t wait to play more. More people need to check out this game, especially since it is on Game Pass now. Even though I’ve only played it for a bit, this may be one of my favourite games in recent memory.
