So I Tried... Metropolis: Lux Obscura

So I Tried... Metropolis: Lux Obscura

Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PC version of Metropolis: Lux Obscura.

What I thought it was

I decided to go into this one completely blind. I’d never heard of the game before, so I wasn’t sure what interpretation of the word “Metropolis” would be. Would it be something akin to a city builder, or maybe a Superman reference, or something along the lines of the silent film Metropolis? I should have been picturing Sin City crossed with Huniepop’s matching game.

What it actually is

Similar to Sin City, your character is a former prisoner returning to society to solve the crime he had been sent away for. At the start of the game, you’re searching for a stripper named “Goldie”. You have to fight your way through the city to find out where she is and who framed you for the murder of a good friend. The fighting mechanism is a match three game, where your matches result in damage to your opponent, heal you, up your damage, or harm you.

Will I keep playing

Hell yes I will, this game is very addicting and I kind of fell in love with it the second I saw the art. It’s done in a comic book style and the art is absolutely stunning. For those who are a little shy, there is nudity, so that you’re aware. I didn’t mind at all, beautiful art is beautiful art and the story is interesting. I definitely plan to see this game through to the end.
