So I Tried… Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris
Each edition of So I Tried… I will try a game that I have never tried before. Will I find something new to love? Will I find something new to despise? I'll take a full half hour, no matter how bad it gets or how badly I do, to see if this is the game for me. This time I went for the PS4 version of Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.
What I thought it was
A co-op-centric twin-stick shooter, if the last one is anything to go by. Based outside of the Tomb Raider franchise, yet still with the same main character, the last one, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, was something I played a demo of, but wasn't too grabbed by it. However this was free on PlayStation Plus, so I figured I'd give it a try.
What it actually is
A multiplayer-centric title with a light dusting of story. Tricked into freeing an ancient Egyptian god from his prison, Lara and company have to resurrect Osiris and defeat Set. That’s it, really, and you have to run about an ancient temple shooting scarabs and what-have-you as you try to find these bits and pieces. Joining Lara are two other Egyptian gods and a human archaeologist who was racing to grab the Staff of Osiris and unknowingly caused the curse to affect them.
Will I keep playing
No, I definitely won’t. It’s designed to be played by four players, and as a solo gamer I don’t really have three people to play with me. And apart from that, the story isn’t very compelling. Only an archeologist with her Guns of the Infinite Ammo and Laser-Staff+1, with a selection of cohorts, can stop Set from returning from the underworld -- or return him to it… One of those. Uninteresting story, uninspired graphics and a multiplayer focus makes me definitely want to delete this and leave it alone.
