snakebyte Product Announcements

I was recently invited to a digital conference to check out what snakebyte has coming out in the near future - some of it a lot sooner than that! Coming out for the Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in time for Christmas.

Things kicked off with a look at the Switch.

DUAL CHARGE:BASE S

With a space to slot in your Switch dock, it can hold two additional Joy-Cons, 10 game cases, and the Pro Controller. It has a handy LED display to show how charged things are too.

ARROW:CHARGE S

This is for those with limited space. It acts as a charging station for one Pro Controller and four Joy-Cons, and gets its name because of its shape. I did ask, and yes the shape came before the name.

RING:KIT S

Perhaps the most surprising item of the presentation. It’s a leg strap for the Joy-Con and two washable hand grips for the ring that you use while playing Ring Fit Adventure. The strap is suitable for a leg circumference of 30-60cm.

Then we moved on to the items coming out for the PlayStation 5.

TWIN:CHARGE 5

Rather than just a new version of the TWIN:CHARGE 4, it was designed from the start to look like the PS5 itself. It holds two DualSense controllers, and rather than having to plug them in upside down, they plug in the right way up. Oh, and it’s available in black and white or just black.

HEAD:SET 5

A headset with, I was assured, very good audio quality for its price range of £17.99. It has a black & white colour scheme, is foldable, has a detachable microphone and comes with a hook for you to hang it on.

CHARGE&DATA:CABLE 5

It’s a 3.2 USB cable used to charge the controller, or move games from an external drive to the internal one. It measures 2M long and is braided.

HDMI:CABLE 5 PRO

An HDMI cable with a decent pricing, especially since it is capable of 4K and 8K, and is 2M long. They also mentioned that a 4K-only cable was also going to be available, which is 3M long.

CHARGE:CABLE 5

 

A cable to charge the controllers, not much to say about it. It will have a 3M & 5M version.

GAMES:TOWER 5

Much like the dock mentioned earlier, this stores four DualSense controllers, 10 games and has a drawer in the base to store a remote or cables.

Then we moved on to the Xbox (Series) range, which is what I was looking forward to personally, since I pre-ordered a Series X. Admittedly, it was basically the same stuff with a different look, especially the HEAD:SET SX, CHARGE&DATA:CABLE SX, HDMI:CABLE SX PRO 4K/8K and CHARGE:CABLE SX 3M & 5M PRO.

TWIN:CHARGE SX

 

Much like the aforementioned one, it was designed to look like the Xbox X|S from the outset. It allows you to charge two Xbox Series controllers and comes with two rechargeable battery packs. It’s available in black or white.

BATTERY:KIT SX

Available separately from the TWIN:CHARGE SX, these are rechargeable replacements for the batteries. Since there is no dock, it comes with a cable to charge them with.

The final item was a big announcement, and not for a specific console.

GAMING:CHAIR EVO

The latest chair from snakebyte;, the EVO comes in three designs made from high-quality vegan leather. It comes with a neck and a back cushion for added support, and the armrests are padded. What’s more, the armrests adjust according to the seat position, which can recline to 170o. It's cheaper and more comfortable than the first gaming seat, and it has a rocking function of 20 degrees. Unfortunately, due to the UK having stricter fire regulations, it’s been delayed quite a bit into 2021.

Part of that is actually due to their most interesting announcement. snakebyte is getting rid of plastic. Why? Well, I asked them and the answer was “The necessity to do it”. All of its packaging going forward will be cardboard, and there will be no plastic packaging. What’s more, it will be redesigning the packaging on older products, so eventually everything will be plastic-free! Snakebyte will also be keeping an eye on how much plastic they haven’t used, going forward.

So when can we get our hands on all of this stuff? Well, the good news is that it’s all going to be on shelves alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox (Series). Except for the TWIN:CHARGE, which will be a couple of weeks after that. Apparently, they couldn’t finish designing everything until they had the actual controllers to test them with, so things were delayed.

snakebyte are going to have more product announcements in 2021, once they’ve had time to handle the actual hardware. Keep an eye out for some reviews of what I’ve talked about in the near future!
