Six Reasons You Need To Revisit Ghost Recon: Breakpoint In 2022
If you are someone who was disappointed by Ghost Recon: Breakpoint when it finally arrived, you are not alone. It generally garnered negative reception from players and critics when it was released back in 2019. Compared to its predecessor, Ghost Recon: Wildlands — a much adored entry in the long-running series — Breakpoint was noticeably lacking. Fans had collectively established a high expectation, but Breakpoint did not deliver.
Ubisoft, endeavouring to improve Breakpoint, set to work immediately and provided over two years of additional support for the title; a sort of goodwill apology that extended far beyond simple bug fixing, adding in plenty of free-to-play extras and gameplay enhancements. The end result was what's now possibly the best Ghost Recon entry — not just a competent game, but a solid action-heavy experience.
This article will discuss just why you need to revisit Ghost Recon: Breakpoint in 2022.
1. NPC Teammates
While playing alongside a team was never technically off limits, it was only achievable with friends. If your pals weren't around, you had to take the fight to the Wolves alone. This irked players immensely; what's Ghost Recon without your team constantly covering your arse? Ubisoft did eventually correct this little faux pas and added in an NPC team to accompany Nomad. They are a great inclusion, being both highly customisable and very versatile on the battlefield.
2. Extra Episodes
Since release, Ubisoft has also increased the mission offerings. Episode 2: Deep State and Episode 3: Red Patriot continue the story while also dipping into other Ubisoft properties, such as Splinter Cell . "Operation Motherland" (which for some reason is not considered Episode 4) is the final storyline expansion. Set some months after the previous Episodes, Nomad and his Ghosts return to Auroa to combat a Russian military force that has invaded the island. This interesting story expansion may reuse the Auroa map, but it resets and reorganises its elements to create a new world to explore. Oh, and there are even Rainbow Six: Siege and Terminator-themed crossovers too! Needless to say, Walker and his Wolves were just the beginning and Auroa still has plenty of threats that need tackling.
Note that all items you unlock can be carried back and forth, across all storylines, regardless of when they are set. You aren't restricted by something so silly as timelines.
3. New Ways To Play
Not only did Ubisoft expand the original "Regular Mode" by increasing the level cap and allowing players to more easily explore Auroa, but they have also added "Immersive Mode". This new mode grounds the game in a more realistic setting. It removes Regular Mode's MMO-style game mechanics — including its levelled gear — in favour of a limited HUD and restricted supplies. Immersive Mode is a great alternative for those that want a more straightforward, yet more difficult, experience.
Regardless of which you do pick, though, you can still ultimately play exactly how you like. Immersive and Regular modes are just the base layer. These can be built upon and manipulated further by using the in-depth difficulty configuration menus.
4. More Guns & Gear
There are now tons of guns to use and loads of gear to customise yourself and your teammates with. Do you want to look like a tactical badass or strip back to a more rustic attire? The choice is yours. You don't even need special optics to utilise night or thermal vision. The game really does not restrict you, allowing you to suit & boot Nomad and his team exactly how you like. As for the guns, well, there are loads more of them, what's not to like?
If you thought there was a lot on offer at launch, you'll be surprised to see how much extra Ubisoft have crammed in since.
5. Improved User Friendliness
It's easy to overlook this aspect; it doesn't immediately jump to the forefront of your mind when you're mentally compiling that long list of things Breakpoint failed at. But know that Ubisoft did not just focus on content and did indeed tweak some mechanics. They added in a bunch of useful improvements, including (but not limited to) being able to cook grenades before throwing them, re-collect placed mines, hurl bullet casings to distract enemies, and even clean your weapons when they get dirty. This neatening of the edges is a nice touch and altogether these little fixes contribute to the true Ghost Recon experience.
6. Better Classes
The final area of discussion is the classes. You still have the standard four: Assault, Medic, Sharpshooter, and Panther. However, Ubisoft has since added:
- Pathfinder: A scout and survival-focused class.
- Echelon: A stealth class that favours pistol combat.
- Engineer: A drone expert that provides both defensive and offensive support.
As well as these, all classes have also had their rank caps raised to 20 — providing the player with some new and difficult challenges to overcome. Don't dismay, though, as there are a plethora of unique goodies to unlock as you battle through them too.
There we have it, six reasons to revisit Breakpoint in 2022. I urge anyone remotely interested to give it another chance; you won't be disappointed.

Yes it certainly is, I came to it very late in all honesty, but I've enjoyed a lot. Both solo and with friends :)

Total pants! As a ghost recon player since GR2 on original Xbox this game sucks! What got players addicted was the variety of choice. Choice of player, create your own guy and have weapons of your choice to play with all the time. Variety and quantity of maps and game modes! Create your own room for another 15 players to join. 8v8! 16 player coop! Last man standing, blind siege, sharpshooter. Peeking! Wtf happened to one of the most tactical moves in the original set of gr games. Ubi used to set the gameplay for other games to follow. Now they have a ghost recon game cancelled due to it being a shower of crap and and trying to bring Fortnite shit to a ghost recon game. Hopefully they learn from their mistakes and make the next game in the gr universe a finished and playable product for single player and PvP.
