Short Thought: Elder Scrolls VI: We Want it Now

Ever since the 36 second teaser was released at E3, there has been only one thing many gamers can think about: When can I play the new Elder Scrolls game?

Now that Fallout 76 has been out for a little while, the optimistic gamer may now be thinking that TES VI is now just around the corner. Though most people who have heard of Bethesda probably know that's not true. The good news is that it has been confirmed by Bethesda, the other (sort of) good news is that it doesn't look like Fallout 76 will be getting as much of the developer's attention as 2014’s The Elder Scrolls Online, due to 76's limited popularity, the bad news is...everything else.

The gap between the fourth and fifth entry in the franchise was a hearty six years, and if the sixth is going to be as good as it is in all of our dreams, Bethesda is going to need even longer to make it, and if you're hoping that a team has been working on it since 2011 or even 2015 (release year of Fallout 4), prepare to be disappointed. The PR director for Bethesda, Pete Hines, has confirmed that there are to be several major game releases from Bethesda before the Elder Scrolls VI.

Apparently, Bethesda wants to be seen as more than just the Elder Scrolls and Fallout developer, which is understandable as it is important for those in the videogame industry to support new and interesting ideas rather than sticking to sequels and reboots. Having said all that, it really doesn't make a difference to fans of the Elder Scrolls (myself included).

Something we can be almost certain of is that the new Elder Scrolls game will be played on the next generation of consoles, which does at least open up the possibility for the latest entry to massively exceed the technical capabilities of previous games.
