Short Thought: Days Gone Remastered Has Given Me Hope For A Days Gone 2

Days Gone was one of my favourite games of the eighth generation of consoles. I feel like I’m very much alone in saying that, as it didn’t exactly garner universal acclaim upon its release. After a few updates and the ironing out of some bugs, however, public reception grew more positive. So, why was there no follow-up title, especially when the first game’s ending was such an obvious sequel setup?

Well, developer Bend Studio itself said that it won’t be working on a Days Gone 2. This, surprisingly, was the studios’ decision, and not that of Sony. At least, that’s one story of the apparently ill-fated second game. More chatter arose online about Sony flat out rejecting a pitch for the sequel, but with many of the details left unconfirmed due to a non-disclosure agreement, we can only speculate on the truth.

Since then, the rumoured live-service title the developer was working on has been shuttered by Sony. Whilst I’ll never be upset that there won’t be yet another live-service game out in the world, it left me thinking, “where does this leave Bend Studio?”

The answer, it seems, was Days Gone Remastered for the PlayStation 5. The reason for releasing a remaster of a barely six-year-old game is anyone’s guess, but it did give me some hope. This clearly isn’t something Bend Studio has forgotten about, and I sure haven’t!

Could this new version be a precursor to Days Gone 2? Or is it just Bend Studio trying to recoup its losses from the cancelled live-service title? I’m very much hoping it’s the former, as I would love to return to this post-apocalyptic hellscape and see what Deacon, Boozer, Sarah, and the rest of the survivors get up to next. Oh, and of course, to find out what the hell is going on with O’Brian!
