Reasons Why I Think Stray Could Be the Best Cat Game Ever

Reasons Why I Think Stray Could Be the Best Cat Game Ever

I have always been a huge fan of cats, so I always get excited when I see a feline in a game I am playing. So as soon as I saw the game trailer for Stray I was instantly in love; not only did I get to see a cat in a game, but you get to play as a kitty. This is a game that I need to sink my claws into!

Here are five things that I saw in the trailer and gameplay footage that make me think that Stray has the chance of being my favourite title of the year and one of the best cat games ever!

  1. The cat's looks and movements are incredibly realistic. The cat in Stray isn't doing anything crazy you wouldn’t have seen your pet do in real life. I've seen first-hand some impressive jumps from my cats before, so I’m not shocked that this furball has great parkour-like moves!

  2. The cat's behaviour is just like how your pet would act, including rubbing the legs of any person or thing that normally isn’t a big fan of cats. In the trailer, we see the cat rubbing the legs of the robots it meets affectionately. I swear they have radar and want to win them over, so they go out of their way to be extra friendly.

  3. Stray encourages people to explore the levels instead of telling them exactly where to go. We see little hints around the area leading the cat to the next destination. When people are playing, they aren’t jumping around like crazy like I probably would; instead, it looks like you can only jump when prompted, which will help narrow down the possible routes players can take. If you have no idea where to go or what to do, it can get pretty frustrating, so the prompts definitely help to make it more clear. Some of the jumps in the footage look quite scary and made me think if they weren’t perfectly lined up, the poor cat would fall, but luckily the game seems to be very forgiving, and I never saw anyone miss a jump!

  4. Since you are playing as a cat, you obviously can't talk but instead have a meow button to communicate. I can tell you right now I am going to spam that button and drive everyone around me crazy. The bit of story that we learn from the trailer and footage seems great, I’m already attached to the adorable furball, and I wasn’t even playing!

  5. You never see a cat's butt with its tail up. I have been around felines for a lot of years, so I am not upset at not having to see a cat butt all the time. I swear they try to show off their arse as much as possible! This is especially good since in the game you are directly behind the cat, so not seeing the cat’s tail up was a good surprise.

These are all the reasons why I am super excited for Stray and why I think it is going to be one of the best cat games I have ever played. I can’t wait to become a cat exploring this dystopian world, while meowing as much as I can.
