PlayStation Launch Titles

Since the PlayStation was the first ‘big’ console of Generation Z, who can remember which games were released on the very first day, this some 25 years since the console’s launch? It turns out a lot of people - especially us Millennials who grew up on the Mega Drive and SNES. But perhaps you don’t. Hopefully this list will remind you which games launched alongside each of the different PlayStations.

The Japanese launch of the original PlayStation on 3rd December 1994 was a tiny taste of the mahjong to come:

  • A.IV Evolution: A-Ressha de Ikou 4
  • Crime Crackers
  • Gokujou Parodius Da! Deluxe Pack
  • Mahjong Gokuu Tenjiku
  • Mahjong Station Mazin
  • Nekketsu Oyako
  • Ridge Racer
  • TAMA

Whereas the North American launch on 9th September 1995 included much more variety:

  • Kileak - The DNA Imperative

Somewhat surprisingly, the European launch a few weeks later on 29th September 1995 was much smaller:

The North America release on 26th October 2000 was a lot more filled out:

With it’s brand new UMD format, Sony’s handheld launched in Japan on 12th December 2004 with:

  • Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower
  • Doko Demo Issho
  • Everybody's Golf aka Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee
  • Lumines
  • Mahjong Fight Club
  • Ridge Racer

As you might be able to guess, the North American launch on 24th March 2005 had a wider selection:

Before the first fully 3D handheld reached Europe on 1st September 2005 with a few more:

The PlayStation 3 was no less impressive, in quality if not exactly quantity, as the Japanese launch on 11th November 2006 saw:

Less than a week later, the North America launch on 17th November 2006 had:

Months went by, so it only made sense that a bigger launch would come to Europe on 23rd March 2007:

What appears to be Sony’s final handheld console arrived in Japan on 17th December 2011 with:

It was then launched in North America on 15th February 2012 with:

Followed mere days later in Europe on 22nd February 2012

PlayStation 4

In a twist to the norm, the latest console was actually launched in North America first, hitting stores on 15th November 2013 with:

Shortly after, it arrived in Europe on 29th November 2013 with:

Before finally arriving months later in Japan on 22nd February 2014 with only a few additions:
