My Experiences with PlayTracker
Thanks to a friend, I've recently fallen in love with a site called PlayTracker. In it, you get to sync your games on multiple platforms (Steam, GOG, XBOX, Guild Wars, etc.), and the site will then generate a challenge for you to complete throughout the month. In total, you need to complete three of the achievements to get the mystery game (which changes per month).
Thankfully, it's not annoying or dreadful, as you have multiple options to choose from: you have the global quests, which the Patreon backers and site owner set; friend's goals, which are the quests given by the people you follow; and personal, which are the goals given to you by the page based on the games on your platforms.
I'm going to be incredibly honest here, I had little hope of sticking to the site. Although it sounded great and looked like a ton of fun, this type of thing is usually very grindy, particularly because of my seemingly terrible attention span for everything (too many unfinished shows, hobbies, and games to count!).
Surprisingly, though, upon the first month, I fell head-over-heels for the site. Despite the first set of challenges having two games I didn't like — particularly Rocket League — I tried them out to see what would happen. I figured if I ended up abandoning them, it'd be no big deal, but I might get at least some hours into the games.
I booted up Rocket League sure I was going to hate the game as I did years ago when I bought it. As it turns out, by the time I had gotten the achievement (which was a simple one: win an online game with a certain car), I was hooked.
I really couldn't believe how much I enjoyed it! I never would've touched the game again had it not been for PlayTracker because I hate sports, and when I first tried it a few years back, I was too bad at games and a sore loser. Now the game has a proud 32 hours under its belt, and I plan to play much more. I finished my three quests that month and proudly got to add the mystery gift to my Steam: XCOM 2.
However, despite my phenomenal first experience, I was still a bit cynical about it. Surely, I'd get bored when the second month arrived. March came around, and I got yet another achievement for a game I hated — Alan Wake. I was pretty sure this was the month I wouldn't get the mystery gift.
Just like with Rocket League, I nervously downloaded the game and booted it up. And wouldn't you know it, I fell in love with it so hard that I ended up writing five whole articles about it! My first experience with Alan Wake was when I was much younger, less empathetic, and a much worse gamer. This time around, I loved the cast of characters, got enthralled by the story, and even played the game on the hard difficulty.
My experiences with PlayTracker have been so much better than I could have fathomed: not only have I gotten to enjoy titles that were gathering dust in my backlog, but I got to revisit some I absolutely loathed and find new love for them. It comes at a good time, too, as Alan Wake 2 is coming soon!
If you're looking for a challenge, I couldn't recommend PlayTracker more. It doesn't cost a cent to join, and honestly, it's given me something to look forward to every month. Check it out here!
