Monster Hunter Wilds — What You Need to Know About Title Update 1
The first title update for Monster Hunter Wildsis here! Sporting a ton of changes to the game, you’ll be spoiled for choice on what to do. But what is in this update? Well, here are only some of the changes and additions available now for free.
The Grand Hub
A place of worship and cultural exchange.
Once you reach HR 16, head over to Suja and talk to Tetsuzan to unlock the Grand Hub, a whole new area for hunters to gather and hang out in.
It has all sorts of new facilities and little secrets to discover, like a place to arm wrestle to even a giant bird nest to obtain free items from. Take your time exploring the place and interacting with anything you can find. It’s great.
Canteen
Eat to your heart's content!
There’s a proper canteen available in the Grand Hub, and it has a special feature. Tired of waiting around for a villager to offer one of those hugely beneficial feasts? Annoyed that they’ll show up after you’ve eaten? Well, you can order one of those Village feasts at the canteen at any time.
So tasty!
You will need either a Voucher that corresponds with one of the villages or a Pick-a-meal Voucher in order to get these meals, though. Straight cash won’t do much good here. And no, the Felynes don’t cook anything. It’s more like food delivery.
Arena Quests
Bring on the hunts!
Arena Quests are back after going missing in the base game. These quests are all about speedrunning monster hunts and attempting to get the fastest time possible. They’re separated into three categories: Arena Quests (hunt with set equipment), Free Arena (hunt with your own equipment), and Challenge Quest (same as Arena Quests, but offers rewards for participation, achieving short times, and ranking high).
Be warned: don’t cheat. You’re risking getting banned from online play, either from players reporting you or from Capcom themselves ensuring you never see another hunter again, and it just ruins the effort others put in to get great times legitimately. Also, if you’re doing this with a friend, they’re also getting banned.
Barrel Bowling
Strike!
This fun little distraction is available in the Grand Hub and gives you a chance to earn some free items by rolling Barrel Bombs down a hill, hitting pins to score points. Achieve an A Rank to get something special as a reward. That being said, you will need Barrel Bowling Tickets to participate and they’re mainly obtained as a login bonus.
Frustratingly, I can't seem to get higher than a B no matter how hard I try.
You don’t have to use up your Bowling Tickets to practice, though. The barrels are just right nearby, and the pins are all set up. Get your aim in and try to get a high score before you commit.
Mizutsune
Bubble Fox Wyvern
Mizutsune, one of the Fated Four introduced in Monster Hunter Generations, is back, and in four times greater than 1080p at high definition. Able to inflict a new status called Bubbleblight, you’ll find yourself slipping and sliding while trying to get a good angle of attack. They’re also sporting a few moves from its Soulseer variant, so don’t expect a predictable fight. Remember to bring Cleansers, because its gear has some unique skills you might want to build around!
Mizutsune will be available via a sidequest given by Kanya in the Scarlet Forest Base Camp at HR 21. If you want to fight Tempered Mizutsune, you’ll need to wait until HR 41 before it starts spawning. And do not underestimate it, even if you've fought hundreds of them in Monster Hunter Rise.
Zoh Shia
The Equal Dragon Weapon
The final boss of Monster Hunter Wilds is now available to be hunted repeatedly. However, there are some stipulations before you get to fight them again. However, there are some stipulations before you get to fight them again.
1. You need to reach HR 50 and complete the corresponding quest
2. If you want it as an Investigation Quest, it's treated like Jin Dahaad, so it'll only show up occasionally as a special quest at Wyveria.
3. Bring your best Dragon and status weapons, as many healing items as you can, and good teammates.
It's a tough fight that will teach you that Monster Hunter is still willing to kick your ass if you're unprepared, but you'll be greatly rewarded for your efforts. You’re also finally able to craft a new set of armour and weapons this time around, with unique skills and even a visual change when equipping your weapon. Don’t be afraid. You’ve done this before; you can do it again.
Customise Alma
Make her 50% cuter!
You can now customise Alma’s outfit, giving her new glasses and clothes, by visiting your tent and going to Edit Appearance. There's even a free set of clothing for her available for download right now. However, any other clothing will be locked behind paid DLC, such as dressing her up like the Handler from Monster Hunter: World.
By the way, to find the sleeping Ayejack for a new sidequest, wait until morning, and he’ll be sleeping in a hammock in the Wudwud Hideout. Make sure you have Eastern Honey.
Festival of Accord
Celebrate the spring season with more hunts.
Just like in Monster Hunter World, there will be a special celebration set in the Grand Hub, offering special quests for new armour, a unique meal to gorge on, and will have every previous event quest available. It’s planned to run from April 23 to May 6, so mark your calendars, hunters!
We’re getting more changes and additions in the future, such as layered weapons, more event quests, and Arch-Tempered monsters. I'm especially antsy for a long-awaited monster's return from Monster Hunter Tri. I’m thoroughly excited for the future of Monster Hunter Wilds, so stay up to date with all its goings-on. Happy hunting!
