Indie Spotlight: November 2021

The GameGrin Indie Spotlight aims to give attention to videogames that the independent scene has offered us over the past month. Whether it be due to quality, success, or creativeness, these are the independent games that stood out to us over the month of November.

Time Loader

3rd November 2021

Time travel is one of my favourite plot elements, and games set in “real” houses when your character is small is also something I enjoy — cue Time Loader. It received a great review, which I didn’t even write, and sees you controlling an RC car with a grabby arm, trying to prevent a personal catastrophe in the past.

Platforms: Windows
Play if you enjoy: Back to the Future: The Game, the 1990s

Recon Control

4th November 2021

Although turn-based strategy isn’t my go-to genre, the art style in Recon Control is just too adorable to ignore. Send in your squad to brutally murder enemy forces across 25 missions, employing either stealth or a full frontal assault.

Platforms: Windows
Play if you enjoy: Door KickersTom Clancy's Rainbow Six

Demon Turf

4th November 2021

The recent renaissance of third-person platformers has certainly been a refreshing one to me, and Demon Turf even harkens back to one of my favourite consoles: the Dreamcast. Our review was certainly positive, and you’d probably agree if you like jumping around the place with a plucky protagonist.

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, Windows, Xbox One & X|S
Play if you enjoy: A Hat in Time, old-school platformers

Henry’s Day

11th November 2021

Time loops are a kind of time travel, and I’ve already established that I like that. So when I found out that Henry's Day has you reliving the same day over and over, I was immediately intrigued. Find out how to escape the loop in the open world of Summer City, and try to find your Zooble phone.

Platforms: Windows
Play if you enjoy: Groundhog Day: Like Father Like Son, time limits

Bright Memory: Infinite

Release Date: 11th November 2021

Originally a really gorgeous tech demo, the one-person development team managed to flesh it out into a well-received game with gorgeous visuals. Bright Memory: Infinite sees you playing as Shelia, using psychic powers, melee weapons, and firearms to keep the dead from being reawakened.

Platforms: Xbox X|S, Windows
Play if you enjoy: Bright Memory, fast-paced action

Rob Riches

Release Date: 16th November 2021

While there are plenty of games about raiding tombs, there are few that are slow moving. That’s where Rob Riches excels, as the traps in each tomb only move when you do, giving you time and space to think things through. Collect coins and discover mysteries, all at your own pace!

Platforms: Windows
Play if you enjoy: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, most Indiana Jones movies

That’s just some of the amazing indie titles released in November, and hopefully there’s something that caught your eye.
