How Accessible is The Plucky Squire?

How Accessible is The Plucky Squire?

Accessibility in games has been getting better as of late, so you might be wondering how it is in the latest titles. In this article, I'll go over the accessibility options available in The Plucky Squire!

All Possible Futures and Devolver Digital kept in mind what they could do for the community in their accessibility options, as they are varied, easy to access, and don't bring any sort of punishment. It's always refreshing to see this, especially as someone who has to tap into them occasionally! But enough thank-yous, let's get into what you'll find.

It's super easy to find the options, whether you're in-game or just in the Main Menu; additionally, you can stop at any point and enable or disable them. All you have to do is go to Pause Menu/Main Menu > Options > Accessibility. Once there, you'll see the five options available, each offering a quick explanation of what toggling them does. In addition to this, there are two difficulty modes, and although the game doesn't have in-depth information about the differences, you can play Story Mode.

Here are the options alongside a quick explanation:

  • Jump Assist: the game offers a lot of jumping, and some of them can be a bit tricky, especially the ones that require more precision. This option will help players figure out when something is possible to jump on easier.
  • Show Hidden Portals: shows the hidden portals that allow players to go from 2D to 3D and vice versa. This is great to avoid getting stuck or having to move too much by backtracking constantly.
  • Disable Falling Platforms: throughout the game, you'll find a few platforming sections where the floor will crumble if you don't move out quickly; this option will stop them from doing that, allowing the player to take their time.
  • Invincibility: while you'll still be killed if you get caught during a few stealth sections (I tried it out), you won't receive damage from enemies. The invincibility is a bit erratic in boss fights, as in the last boss fight, you'll sometimes be invulnerable, sometimes not. But, for the most part, Jot becomes immortal! An easy way to tell is if the heart appears above his head.
  • One Hit Kill: as the name suggests, you'll kill enemies in one hit, except bosses!

I'm very pleased with the options, as I can't imagine what else could have been added. The answer to the question is: The Plucky Squire is very accessible!

Make sure to check out my review of the game if you're interested in learning more! The Plucky Squire is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
