GameGrin’s Top Videogame Crushes
It’s Valentine's weekend and some of us will gleefully shower our significant other with love and expensive tat, while others will just try to forget that they’re single as fuck. There is one kind of love that we’re all guilty of and that is the crush.
Whether it be someone from your childhood or work. It’ll never happen, but one can dream that you’ll be together with them. And this natural (yes, it’s normal) feeling doesn’t just affect the real world, it’s even within the realm of videogames and that’s why we’ve put together a list of our Top Videogame Crushes.
Femshep and Femhawke
Mass Effect/Dragon Age Series
When it comes to the freedom of choice there is nothing better within a videogame than to customise your protagonist, and Bioware are one of the best in design for this choice. Fans of Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect will certainly know this first hand with their choice of Shepard and Hawke. Enter the appropriately fan titled: Femshep and Femhawke, both oozing with the same determination and level headedness as their male counterparts, but we say when it comes to heroines in gaming you can’t go wrong with Femshep or Femhawk. The blokes may get the front cover, but it’s these heroines that take the prize in winning our hearts throughout these epic RPGs.
Alistair
Dragon Age Origins
In keeping with Bioware games, more specifically the Dragon Age franchise, who could not love or admire (depending on your preference) Alistair, your companion throughout Origins who will journey alongside you till the very end, and your companionship will lead to his ultimate decision at the end; depending on your actions and influence. He’s charming, cocky and certainly one of the most memorable companions within the franchise. So much so that he even makes an appearance in other Dragon Age titles.
Garrus
Mass Effect Series
As with Alistair being one of our most admired companions in Dragon Age, the same can be said for Garrus in the Mass Effect franchise. He’s an unusual character choice as when it comes to love interest many would choose Liara T'Soni, but when it comes to pure bromance and companionship you can’t deny Garrus as your most trusted and loyal comrade. He’s honest and trustworthy all throughout your journey in Mass Effect, even when things look bleak you can always rely on Garrus, unless you’re dick to him.
Triss, Yennefer and Ciri
The Witcher Series
This was a tough decision, originally it was going to be just Triss, but then we decided on Triss and Yennefer, but with the arrival of The Witcher 3, fans, myself included can’t help but have an urging crush towards Ciri, the young ashen-haired Witcher who is basically Geralt’s adopted daughter. She is battle scarred, but more than capable of holding her own and takes after Geralt in her own way. She’s like the girl next door you fancy, but you have to watch out for her father. Triss and Yennefer on the other hand, are joyous love interests, depending on your choices and shows that, damn, Geralt has taste.
Ezio Auditore
Assassin's Creed Series
There is something about Ezio that we can all appreciate. He is the man that gave life to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. He wasn’t the first and of course won’t be the last, but he is the man that we can all admire. With his first appearance in Assassin's Creed 2 to his final days, Ezio is the real reason why Assassin’s Creed became such a success. He’s charming and heroic coupled with a swooning Italian accent, you can’t resist Ezio even if it does result in a hidden-blade to the heart.
Johnny Gat
Saint's Row Series
Wildcard bitches. Who would've of thought, Johnny “fucking” Gat would make this list, but here he is nonetheless. Second in command of the Third street Saints in the Saints Row series, Johnny wouldn’t give two shits about you, but if you play it cool and be loyal, you know deep down inside he’d treat you right.
Chun-Li
Street Fighter Series
Tastes come in all different shapes, and there is one fighter that stands tall amongst the greats and that’s Chun-Li. With her thighs, your mind may boggle over the gravitas of it all, but you have to put that aside and just let her take you for a spin (of lightning kicks). Strong and powerful, she’s right up beside other iconic fighters in videogames.
Lara Croft
Tomb Raider Series
Who could deny a place in videogame history of crushes for Lara Croft. Whether it be from childhood and seeing those polygons flow to today in her in reboot of the series, there is no shame in saying that we’ve all had a crush or two towards Lara. Even non-gamers know her name and that’s saying something about her reputation in the media. Here’s to you Lara for keeping the childhood crush alive.
Paine
Final Fantasy Series
When it comes to Final Fantasy’s most popular female characters, most will think of Tifa, Aerith, Yuna or more recently Lightning, but there is one stand-out character many may have not heard of and that is Paine. Paine is featured in Final Fantasy X-2 alongside other pop gorgeous heroines Yuna and Rikku. With piercing red eyes, she’s the gothic chick that you love to hate.
So there you have it. Ain’t no shaming here. Some gamers will claim they've outgrown these childish urges, but there is no denying one time or another we’ve all had our videogame crush.
So let’s hear yours down in the comments below.
