Freebie Feelers... Split/Second
Freebie Feelers is a series where we download the free monthly console-specific or newly released free-to-play games to test their worth. This series will contain some useful information as well as plenty of personal opinion. While these articles may not be reviews, we hope that you will be able to use them to help decide whether that free download is worth it.
What is it?
For the first half of February, Xbox users are going to be able to download Split/Second, an arcade-esque racer with an environmental twist. Instead of players only having to worry about other cars, there is also the ever-looming threat of the very scenery trying to stop them. From falling crates to quickly closing shortcuts or even track changing events such as an air traffic control tower collapsing, there is always something to keep an eye out for in this fast-paced title.
What did you think?
As a fan of the Need for Speed and Burnout series, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Split/Second. Not only is the actual racing fun, but causing the competition to be set back by the environment is always extremely satisfying. While I may not be a huge fan of the story that’s meant to tie the events of the game together, I easily looked past it so I could get back to gleefully destroying every other person on the track.
Is it worth downloading?
This should be easy enough to figure out. Do you like racing games? If yes, do you like Burnout or Forza more? If you’re anything like me and picked Burnout, make sure your Xbox Gold subscription is ready because Split/Second is available until the 15th of February.
