Freebie Feelers… Don’t Die, Mr. Robot!
Freebie Feelers is a series where we download the free monthly console-specific or newly released free-to-play games to test their worth. This series will contain some useful information as well as plenty of personal opinion. While these articles may not be reviews, we hope that you will be able to use them to help decide whether that free download is worth it.
What is it?
Don't Die, Mr. Robot! is a small little arcade, bullet hell game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita (yup, it’s cross-buy) and is currently available as part of July’s PlayStation Plus lineup. Giving you the chance to take control of a cute little robot in a electro-abyss of exploding fruit and banging tunes. As endless hordes of robotic machines try to destroy our robot friend those tasty looking fruits will help us survive.
What did you think?
When the PlayStation Plus games are announced I do expect the PlayStation Vita titles to be a bit lackluster. That said Don't Die, Mr. Robot! is a fantastic little game that is a joy to play and feels fantastic on the PlayStation Vita. The game offers a number of game modes ranging from a arcade mode, time attack, chill out mode and remix mode that gives you a range of medals to earn through missions. As you progress through the game you also pick up coins from your defeated enemies which can be spent in a number of ways. This includes a number of power ups to help you survive for longer in the ever growing danger of the electro-abyss and some cosmetic items.
On the surface you might be mistaken to think that Don't Die, Mr. Robot! is a simple game through and through. But as you spend more time with it you will find that there is a core gameplay loop here to be mastered. The controls and machines are straightforward but with the random nature of the game it creates some rather exciting and tense moments. On top of that the game has some colour visuals that are easy on the eye and a number of splendid tracks to accompany your play time. With online leaderboards as will find yourself continuously trying to improve your scores and climb up the ranks to get that self of accomplishment.
Is it worth downloading?
As a game that is normally priced at less than £3 you honestly can’t go wrong with downloading Don't Die, Mr. Robot! and giving it a try. It’s a small and fun game that offers a lot of replay value and enjoyment. With its polish, engaging gameplay and catching visual and audio style, what more could you ask for? It might not be a AAA game for the PlayStation Vita but Don't Die, Mr. Robot! is still just as fun. Remember you have until the end of the month to pick up this one.
