Freebie Feelers... Crazy Taxi
Freebie Feelers is a series where we download the free monthly console-specific or newly released free-to-play games to test their worth. This series will contain some useful information as well as plenty of personal opinion. While these articles may not be reviews, we hope that you will be able to use them to help decide whether that free download is worth it.
What is it?
Crazy Taxi has you playing as one of four taxi drivers, with the aim of the game to deliver passengers to their requested locations. However, getting yourself a high-score is about much more than just getting from A to B as quickly as possible. You need to factor in stunts and other somewhat dangerous driving to really up the ante as far as getting money out of your passengers goes, and it’s in those actions where the game really derives its “Crazy” moniker from.
What did I think?
It’s one of the classic arcade games, and has been ported to most systems in one form or another. This outing takes the version that debuted on the Dreamcast, albeit sans the original soundtrack. Instead, your ears are caressed with some generic pop-punk instead of the screaming guitars of The Offspring’s Bad Habit. My recommendation? Turn the game’s music off and listen to the original soundtrack elsewhere, instead.
Is it worth it?
Crazy Taxi is, at its core, an arcade game for the ages. It still plays just as well as the first time you tried it, though this time in HD with a much more naff soundtrack, sadly. For the low price of free though, you cannot argue with this wander down memory lane.
Crazy Taxi will be free through Games with Gold on the 16th of February till the 28th.
