Five Last Gen Games That Definitely Need Current Gen Sequels
The last generation of consoles went on for absolutely ages, and because of that there were a whole load of great games to choose from, such a great selection that developers currently seem hell bent on porting most of them to the new generation. Ports are fine and all, but there are some games that desperately need a sequel. Here they are.
Skate
My adoration for the Skate games knows no bounds, I struggle to think of any game I played more during my college years. Developers Black Box managed to establish Skate as a game miles ahead of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series, largely through its innovative control system and general adage to Skateboarding culture. I remember downloading the demo on my Xbox 360, and spending hours upon hours skating the tiny map within. My mind was blown upon purchasing the full game, I was able to skate anywhere and everywhere, stamping my own tricks and style upon the city of San Vanellona. The most recent Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game was an absolute mess on release and likely isn’t much better now, meaning it’s the perfect time for EA to unveil a new Skate game to the world.
Fight Night
The Fight Night games are about punching people in the face, much like the sport of boxing itself. Fight Night has been around since the PS2 and Xbox days, spawning loads of sequels and even some handheld ports. I have fond memories of absolutely annihilating people via split screen, due to my tendency to constantly throw uppercuts and haymakers. A tactic that may have been brash, but it worked, much to the annoyance of my friends. It’s been awhile since we had a Fight Night game, the last title to come out in the series was Fight Night Champions in 2011. Since then the UFC series has been dominating the “Punch people in the face” niche. Boxing is still an incredibly popular sport and I see no reason why EA can’t make another one, so please do EA.
Vanquish
For the past 15 years Sega have been trying to make Sonic cool again and also occasionally publishing really awesome games. One of those really awesome games is Vanquish, a 3rd person action shooter that lets you be a gun toting ninja. I know that sounds kinda daft, but it is brilliant. You know those terrible 80’s action movies that everyone loves, but knows are a bit crap? Vanquish is the Japanese video game equivalent of that. The developers Platinum Games also made Bayonetta as well as a ton of other really great games. I’m probably asking for too much on this one, but a new Vanquish game would make me a happy man.
Red Dead Redemption
Red Dead Redemption is one of the best games ever made, in my opinion. It managed to perfectly capture the essence of a spaghetti western, whilst giving players the chance to explore a rich and dynamic world. Everything from the story through to the soundtrack is perfectly designed to immerse players and get them into the boots of John Marston. Rockstar have been fairly busy over the past three years with the development of Grand Theft Auto V, meaning that a Red Dead sequel is looking unlikely in the immediate future. While playing Metal Gear Solid V, I couldn’t help but wonder if this is how a new RDR game would look. With a bit more vegetation and wildlife of course, but the horse riding was very reminiscent of how Red Dead felt. Rumours do keep cropping up from time to time though so I won’t be giving up hope any day soon.
The Darkness
The Darkness (the game, not the band) is the story of a man who ends up possessed by an evil spirit, the game follows his battle for self control. It’s a little mix of everything; gangster movies, horror, action and even a bit of romance. What makes the game so special is the phenomenal voice acting performance by Mike Patton as the voice of the Darkness, he also sings in Faith No More! The Darkness 2 released in 2012, breathing new life into the story and improving the game play. The game’s ending left more unanswered questions than conclusions, and it left me feeling like we need to see more. It is nice in the world of modern first person shooters to see someone taking the formulae and applying it to an already popular comic book series. It’s something I wish happened more commonly.
So this is my list and most of you will probably tell me off for missing a game you love. Honestly though, these are just some games that I really love, and would love to see return. If there’s any games you would love to see on the PS4 & Xbox One, drop a comment below.

2 out of 5....Red Dead and The Darkness are the only two that need a sequel.Skate was awful (although not as bad as the latest Tony Hawks game),Fight Night? Really? The Boxing genre dies while thew Dreamcast was still around...
And Vanquish? The onyl way to make it better? Make it LONGER....A game that really does need a Next Gen update though?Speedball....
