Destiny: Beat The Strike Bosses

Destiny: Beat The Strike Bosses

By now, most Destiny players will have reached the normal level cap. At this point the persistent quest for light and level 30 can begin - How? Simple really; play Strikes, receive marks, buy legendary gear, dismantle, upgrade using ascendant shards, rinse and repeat. The more Strikes you do the better, and that means you need to get through them as quickly as possible. Providing you are a champion sparrow pilot, and you can cowardly rush through hordes of pointless enemies to respawn restricted areas (where you actually have to do some killing), you’ll find yourself reaping the rewards in no-time.

With these helpful hints to beating the bosses below, you and your fireteam will soon be clocking up those light levels. And remember, the higher your level, the easier this will be.

EARTH STRIKE - SEPIKS PRIME

There are technically two bosses on this strike, the first, ‘The Devil Walker’ shouldn’t take more than a few minutes of your time though. Stick to the left and right flanks and pour in hordes of heavy and fusion rifle ammo into its legs. When you see his laser sight, run… the rocket will kill you instantly and if your fireteam is all together, it’s back to the start.

As for Sepiks Prime, the most important thing to do is have your back to the wall; Dregs, Shanks and Vandals come from all angles so keep them in sight. To the right of the area is a small room with some spherical barrels to hide behind, staying in here will mean that Prime can’t appear on top of you when he does his teleporting ‘party trick’. Like smaller Servitors, you want to aim straight for his eye and make sure you avoid his void missiles, they can cause a lot of damage, especially if you have certain modifiers on. Stay in the room, watching out for any stray enemies which may discover you should get through this no problem at all.

MOON STRIKE - PHOGOTH THE UNTAMED

You can get to the final boss battle relatively fast here, especially with your now established supreme sparrow skills. The boss battle against Phogoth is a relatively chaotic one, particularly towards the latter stages as Wizards and Knights join the party. Make sure to clear these baddies away pretty quickly, they can cause you a lot of problems otherwise. As for the cowards that sit further away, shooting from afar, they can be ignored.

The best thing to do with regards to the big obnoxious Ogre is split your fireteam in a triangle shape surrounding him. Keep circling him and filling him with lead in the stomach, this is where his weak spot is. Make sure to keep this up in order to avoid his deathly laser beam. The less time it takes, the better, the longer you are there, the harder the joining enemies become.

VENUS STRIKE - ARCHON PRIEST

The first time I fought the Archon Priest, it took me well over an hour granted, I was only level 20, but if i’d have known how to take him on properly it would have been so much easier.

Once the final area is cleared, the cell will open and out will hop this pissed off Vandal on steroids. You can completely ignore the hordes of Fallen and focus purely on the Archon Priest as long as you work as a team. The place to camp out is the same place where you enter the area from. Standing on this cliff edge will force the priest towards you and will stop the constant onslaught of the less important enemies, not to mention it’ll mean the Ultra Servitor will completely ignore you.  If things get a bit too close for comfort you can run backwards to regain health, as if leaving the area - don’t go too far though or you will return to orbit! Continue shooting at his weak spot (this time his head) and he’ll be dissolving into ash with a ear-piercing shriek.

VENUS STRIKE -  SEKRION, NEXUS MIND

The easier of the two Venus strikes sees you taking on those pesky Vex. Once again, providing you assume the ‘run through everything’ tactic, you should get to the battle relatively quickly. Sekrion will spawn and remain in the centre of the room with a slowly rotating shield protecting him. Two approaches to this one:

Sekrion Nexus Mind

1. If you’re a fire team consisting of  three fully upgraded sniper rifles, you can stay in the cave above the battle arena. Constantly hitting Sekrion in his glowing yellow face with 1000+ damage each time is a sure fire way to get things done fast.

2. If like me, you’re a ‘get stuck in’ type of Destiny player, much like the Moon strike it’s a case of running and gunning, just make sure you’re shooting Sekrion, not the shield. Every now and then a number of Vex Goblins and Hobgoblins will spawn in three locations around the room, make sure to clear these before continuing with the big bad as they are likely to attack from each and every direction. Stick to the lower levels which run the border of the area and you should see Skerion crumble into a big pile of shrapnel in front of your very eyes.

MARS STRIKE - PSION FLAYERS

The problem you have with the finale of this strike is that it’s plural. Bosses. But fear not, these three Flayers are nothing you haven’t handled before. Stick together as a team on one Flayer at a time, unleashing every ounce of ammo you have and avoiding damage from the Cabal ground troops. The other Flayers should leave you to your own accord until you start attacking them. The main thing to watch out for is the constant spawning of Colossi who can inflict heavy damage, more so than the three bosses. Ensure to kill these beasts straight away before getting back to the three Flayers.

You might find that one, if not two flayers like to hang around dangerously to the barriers, if they are pushed right against them a tactical rocket launcher will blast them over the edge and into the abyss below, regardless of the damage they have already taken. Easy!.

MARS STRIKE - VALUS TA’AURC

The first respawn restricted area in this one can take you a while, 3 Cabal Ultras (those buggers with the yellow health bars) and the small matter of a Goliath Tank. Fear not though. Once again working together helps here (notice a pattern?) grab the pikes and surge forward. There are six, so you don’t have to be overly careful, and just mindlessly fire shots towards the Cabal, easy. Next up the tank will drop on the lower, open area. One hit from this Goliath and it’s game over however, so mind how you go. Like the Moon strike, position your fireteam surrounding the tank and continuously move around it in the same direction. The impact from the pike’s missiles will destroy the Goliath tank relatively quickly, the added bonus being that you will have saved yourself some ammo from the final battle.

For the fight with Valus Ta’aurc, what can only be described as one of the Cabal that took going to the gym too seriously, you are restricted to one large room, with little place to hide and damage him from. Or so you would think. As you look at the doors he enters the room from, head to the left corner. Here you will see a ramp going to a higher level, against the wall is a small gap, small enough for a guardian to get into. Under the upper level, you are protected by all kinds of level design nonsense, mostly barrels. Hiding behind them means nothing can bother you. Continually shoot Valus in his weak spot, his face, until he is nothing more than memory of the Cabals oppression on Mars. The only problem you’ll find is that handfuls of Phalanx’s will block your view, but keep your supercharge, provided it’s a splash zone damage one, and they’ll fall to your mercy.

Boss 10

It’s probably important to note that Valus will move across to the other side of the room when he reaches a certain amount of damage. When this happens, you’ll have to come out of your hidey hole and continue the onslaught. But watch out, his missiles pack a lot of punch so it is probably best to do this in shifts with your fireteam. Again, when his health reaches a certain low, he’ll move on back to where he started and you can return to safety in your makeshift bunker.
