Cute Games to Play This Halloween

Cute Games to Play This Halloween

Although I am a huge fan of Halloween, I'm not great with horror or gore (especially thanks to my thanatophobia), so I tend to gravitate more towards the cutesy side of my favourite holiday, where the pumpkins, candies, and great costumes lie in! So this year, I've decided to compile a list of some of the best cutesy or cosy games to play this spooky season for you! In alphabetical order, we start with…

#1 — Costume Quest (and its Sequel!)

Costume Quest COVER

  • Genres: RPG, Adventure
  • Developer: Double Fine Productions
  • Publisher: Double Fine Productions

One of the first adorable Halloween games I ever saw was none other than Costume Quest! This adorable title has you stepping into the shoes of a twin who goes on a Halloween-filled journey to save their sibling! Collect different costumes to use in battle, encounter hilarious situations, and get your fill of cutesy without sacrificing any of the -ween!

#2 — Ghost Parade

Ghost Parade COVER

  • Genres:  Action, Adventure
  • Developer: Lentera Nusantara
  • Publisher: Aksys Games

Although I haven't gotten around to playing Ghost Parade, I've been quite excited about it. In the game, you team up with 30 ghostly companions, each with a unique ability that'll help you through your travels, and journey across the creepy woods together! It looks absolutely adorable and humorous, and I think it's an excellent way to get into the spooky spirit.

#3 — HorrorVale

  • Genres:  RPG
  • Developer: BatWorks Software
  • Publisher: BatWorks Software

I originally played HorrorVale last year during my first attempt to find some of the best Halloween games, and I fell head over heels for it! This hilarious RPG title really brings a lot of charm with it... enough that I just had to include it in this year's, too! In it, you play as Alice, an adorable skeleton who goes on a quest to save her dog and figure out why monsters have invaded the once-peaceful village of HorrorVale! With over 30 members to recruit and tons of hilarious puns, it's worth checking out the free Act 1!

#4 — Lost in Random

Lost in Random COVER

  • Genres:  Action, Adventure
  • Developer: Zoink, Thunderful
  • Publisher: Electronic Arts
  • ReviewClick here!

Lost in Random isn't an actual Halloween-based game like some of the others on this list, but it holds a place dear in my heart, one of the many reasons being that it looks like it's set in a Tim Burton film. In it, we play as Even, a young girl who goes on a crazy adventure through a world that determines everything by the roll of the dice to save her sister from the wicked queen. Expect phenomenal mechanics, fun worlds to explore, and an interesting story!

#5 — Love, Ghostie

Love Ghostie COVER

  • Genres: Dating Sim, Visual Novel
  • Developer: Janbeh Games, LLC
  • Publisher: Janbeh Games, LLC
  • PreviewClick here!

Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of previewing Love, Ghostie — an adorable and nuanced dating sim that puts you into the shoes of a snoopy little ghost whose life revolves around getting people to fall in love with each other. Comical, light-hearted, and cute, this may not be a Halloween game per se, but it is all about adorable spirits! Although it isn't out yet, there's a demo available!

#6 — Monster Prom

Monster Prom COVER

  • Genres:  Dating Sim, Multiplayer
  • Developer: Beautiful Glitch
  • Publisher: Those Awesome Guys

This is a more known game that many of you will probably recognise, but for those of you who don't, I present to you another dating sim/visual novel title, and this one is a bit more Halloween-y! Aside from being hilarious and adorable, this nuanced title is also multiplayer, meaning you can drag your friends straight into the high school romance drama with you!

#7 — RESTLESS SOUL

RESTLESS SOUL COVER

  • Genres: Comedy, Adventure
  • Developer: Fuz Games
  • Publisher: Graffiti Games
  • ReviewClick here!

Breaking out of the love theme, RESTLESS SOUL is mostly a comedy title that has you wandering around as a wayward spirit who is on a journey to go back to the land of the living! Nothing much is taken seriously in this title, so expect tons of giggles!

#8 — Savage Halloween

Savage Halloween COVER

  • Genres: 2D platformer, Multiplayer
  • Developer: 2ndBoss
  • Publisher: 2ndBoss

While other titles in this list may not be actually Halloween-based, Savage Halloween proudly displays its spooky season roots! This 2D platformer was also featured in my list last year, and I still think it holds up as a great action-based title to pick up throughout October! It's all about passing through levels, getting good scores, and making sure the Halloween party ends!

#9 — Spooky Station

Spooky Station COVER

  • Genres: Varied
  • Developer: Coletivo Vaca Roxa, Vee, JoyMasher, PKO Game Studio, Spookids Team, Calangames, Expresso Studios, Pastel Studios, Heavy Sheep, LASTONE, Asteristic Game Studio
  • Publisher: Estúdio Vaca Roxa

Spooky Station is a great option if you're looking to get a ton of mini Halloween adventures, as it's actually a bundle of nine different games with a nice mix and variety of genres — from puzzles to roguelikes! It's a perfect way to dive head-first into a fantastic Halloween adventure.

#10 — Witch It

Witch It COVER

  • Genres: Multiplayer, Casual
  • Developer: Barrel Roll Games
  • Publisher: Barrel Roll Games

Last but not least, a few years ago, I found a charming and nostalgic idea: a hide-and-seek game on PC where one team hides by transforming into objects, and the others try to find them! This time around, it's witches, and the Halloween vibes are spectacular!

That's it for this year's list of cute and cosy Halloween games you can play! Let me know what you think!
