Black Myth: Wukong — Drunken Boar Quest Guide

Black Myth: Wukong has a habit of hiding secret quests around its chapters, some of which are more obvious than others. If you’ve explored the sandy canyons of Chapter 2, you may have run into a portly gentleman with some troubles: he drank too much, you see, and needs help sobering up. But how? Worry not, young disciple! We’re here to help.

CAUTION: this guide has some semi-big spoilers for Chapter 2.

Step 1: A cure for what ails you

Before we get ahead of ourselves, if you never run into this NPC, teleport to the Rockrest Flat Shrine and head to the right. A path will be guarded by a Spearbone (sans shield), behind which you’ll find a large, open area with our inebriated friend sitting on a stone near the centre.

My piggy went home, sad to say

Mister Boar, or Yellow-Robed Squire, gives us a mission: find an item to heal his hangover. There are two ways to do this: the normal way and the rich way! If you want to do some fun exploring, head towards Windrest (as the squire himself advises). Go past the Windrest Bridge — note: if you’re missing this shrine, it’s right behind the Tiger Vanguard’s pool in the Crouching Tiger Temple — If you head left after the bridge, you should find some stairs leading to a little village with some nasty rats. You should be able to find a glowing urn somewhere inside with what you seek, the Sobering Stone!

If you see the temple, you've missed it.

If you’re not bothered running about, however, you can also purchase the item from Man-In-Stone, who can be found near the Squall Hideout Shrine in a crevice. To open up the shop, you’ll need to do a small quest involving finding Buddha heads around the area that teach you the spell needed to release your geologically impaired friend. You will need to whack him with your stick too, but that’s beside the point.

Once you’ve found or purchased the item, make your way to our friend in need and give him the Stone.

Step 2: A Lotus for your thoughts

After he recovers from his aching head, your bristly friend will set out to find some munchies. You’ll find him just before the gates to the Tiger Vanguard boss. Go to the Crouching Tiger Temple Shrine and go up all but the last steps. Your now satiated friend should be on the right alcove with some of his gathered snacks. After some discussion, he’ll ask you for some help: deliver unto him a Jade Lotus! His snack hasn’t quite agreed with him, you see.

If, like me, you’ve collected almost everything you see, you may have a supply of the items already, but if not, you can find them near watery areas. You can also simply buy one from the Keeper’s Shrine. Once delivered, the Squire will, again, be ready for more adventure. Before heading off, he’ll give you a cryptic clue about a golden mask his “senior brother” gave him.

Step 3: Betrayal most porcine

Now, this last step will depend heavily on where you are in the story and how much you’ve completed so far. The gold mask the Squire is referring to is the Arhat Gold Piece. To acquire this item, if you don’t have it, you’ll have to take on an optional boss, the First Prince of the Flowing Sands.

GIVE THINE PRINCE A HUG

This monstrous mouse can be found in a deep pit near the Valley of Despair Shrine. If you wander close to the boss arena, a cutscene will play wherein the King will summon his cursed son to help take you out… it doesn’t go well. Take out this yaoguai and gain your prize! Note — some guides have mentioned that your warthog friend will be called to fight in this battle if you have not beaten the First Prince before this. I could not verify this, but heads up!

After you gain the mask, make your way back to the area where you first found the Yellow-Robed Squire and you should find him pacing near the large staircase. Angered by you bonking his brother, he will attack! Take him down a notch and he will relent, opening up the secret area, Kingdom of Sahali!

And there you have it! Happy bug hunting. You’ll know what I mean.
