5 Videogames Where You Can Marry Other Players (Including Same-sex Marriage)
It is no secret that our society and cultures have changed drastically throughout these recent decades, and this was all thanks — for the most part — to the technology that has become available. Although not all of the changes have been good, I'd argue there's a bigger list of ones that have been, and my favourite is the ability to find and connect to people from across the world! With this opportunity to make friendships all over the globe comes the inevitability of falling in love, but thanks to videogames, it's possible to get married, even if not officially.
So, I thought a nice way to celebrate Spouse Day would be to list some games where you and your partner can get married and, in some, even get bonuses! As a side note, for those in a same-sex marriage, you can calmly peruse, as I’ve only chosen games that allow it!
Stardew Valley
One of — if not the most — famous life simulators is still receiving updates and love, even almost a decade since its release. Among the many features and mechanics added was the much-requested ability to co-op, and with it came marriage! This is great because a lot of us connect strongly with our spouses through videogames, and if you and your partner both love farming/life sims, I can't think of a better, cuter, or more refreshing thing to do than get married in-game, too!
How to get married?
Although getting married in Stardew Valley is technically as easy as finding and purchasing the Wedding Ring, it's not without its loops! This is mostly because you can only get it via the Traveling Cart, which appears only during certain days and times, and you'll need the items necessary to craft the ring, namely, five Iridium Bars and one Prismatic Shard!
FINAL FANTASY XIV Online
As a person who was a complete World of Warcraft addict, I have a hole in my heart that will never be filled again, and although I wish I could love FFXIV, I just don't like MMORPGs as much as I did before. But for those lucky ones who do find the time, love, and patience to enjoy them, FINAL FANTASY XIV is a phenomenal option if you're looking to tie the knot in-game. Unlike Stardew Valley, this one does come with its perks; namely, you'll get an item that will teleport you to your spouse!
Surprisingly, I wouldn't say the teleportation is the best part, as Square Enix really took their time to make this a magical moment even in-game. Prepare to send out invitations, schedule a wedding at the Ivory Chapel, and even pick wedding themes! This attention to detail really lives up to the special day, and it's not just about going to a place and saying some vows. You'll have to complete a questline that'll unlock some goodies for free and others you can even pay for, including a mount and minions!

In order to start this seemingly magical journey, you'll need to speak with Claribel, the ceremony planner who you can find over at the Sanctum of the Twelve in the East Shroud! After that, you and your loved one will go off into the sunset to complete the questline and unlock all sorts of fun, marriage-y goodies.
The Elder Scrolls Online
Another MMORPG you can get hitched in is none other than The Elder Scrolls Online! And, truth be told, I can't imagine a better genre to do this in, as you'll be able to invite loved ones and enjoy a bunch of bonuses in a usually never-ending genre. That being said, although it brings a whopping 10% Experience bonus increase and even offers the ability for polygamy (which is awesome!), the wedding itself falls a bit short in comparison to the entire ordeal in Final Fantasy XIV. Still, it's definitely worth the while, especially if you find ways to make it special via roleplay and inviting friends!
How to get married?
To get married in The Elder Scrolls Online, you'll first need to have the Imperial Edition of the game, as you'll be able to get the Rings of Mara this way. Then, all you'll have to do is visit a Shrine of Mara with your to-be spouse — you can find these in any major starting towns — and use the pledge in your action bar while looking towards your companion. This will initiate the ritual, and if you both agree, you'll be married in a jiffy!
Elsword
Moving on from 3D titles, we have Elsword, a 2.5D MMORPG that KOG Studios — the team behind the loved Grand Chase — developed! In it, you can get married to your beloved through the Wedding System, which allows you and your spouse to receive bonuses; this is the romantic version of the Soulmate System, which works similarly! This time around, the buffs are a little more complex than just Experience boosts, as some of them are only available for a set duration but can be refreshed through remarrying!
How to get married?
Similarly to FINAL FANTASY XIV, in Elsword, you'll need to first get a Wedding Ring and propose; if the other player says yes, you'll receive a few goodies to you and your spouse's mailbox, such as invitations, wedding outfits, and a Wedding Reservation Ticket. Afterwards, all you have to do is choose the date, time, location, number of reserved seats and, my personal favourite, an NPC to be the officiant!
The Sims Mobile
Next, I wanted to talk about one that surprised me — not only do The Sims have a mobile game, but you can apparently get married in it! In fact, you can marry NPCs, Sims controlled by you, and other players. Although this one is a little weirder because you just get a copy of the other person's Sim, I still thought it was such a cute idea for couples! Especially because it seems there are different "story arcs" you can do, such as The Fixer-upper, Soulmates, and Secret Crush, among others! While I'm not in the least well-versed in this newfound Sims title, for a couple who likes the idea of exploring silly stories together, this seems great!
How to get married?
As this is a mobile title, it does have a few more complexities than just going and buying an item and proposing. There are a few steps you must complete first, such as levelling up to a certain Exp Level, building a relationship with the Sim of the person you're interested in, and, of course, buying the Wedding Collection!
And that's it! I hope you found something nice to do with your spouse on this great day. Thanks for reading, and see you next year!
