10 Videogame Character Resolutions
It’s a New Year so everyone is thinking of their resolutions - so are fictional characters! Taking a list cultivated from Wikipedia, here’s what we think some of the most popular videogame characters are resolving to do in 2015.
1: Improve physical well-being:
eat healthy food, lose weight, exercise more, eat better, drink less alcohol, quit smoking, stop biting nails, get rid of old bad habits
Solid Snake is taking up the challenge of turning his life around. He’s dropping the ciggies, not drinking as much and the big one: he is resolving to stop battling giant robots. Anyone who’s played Metal Gear Solid 4 knows that Snake is getting on in years, so it’s about time for a change.
2: Improve mental well-being;
think positive, laugh more often, enjoy life
The youngest of the Mario twins Luigi has picked this one. Tired of being the final pick, the second string, the first runner up and the booby prize, he wants a fresh outlook on life. Last year he got his own limited edition 3DS, and through the power of positive thinking he will do away with the (literal) ghosts of his past (mansions).
3: Improve finances:
get out of debt, save money, make small investments
Adventurer Nathan Drake has had some pretty bad takes in his gaming history. He makes enough to get by, but he’ll want to retire one day and that means a big score. What will that score be? Well, it has to be big enough so that requires planning - so he’s making small investments of time to do that.
4: Improve career:
perform better at current job, get a better job, establish own business
The Boss picks this every year. From a street thug to the leader of the Third Street Saints, up to the President of the United States of America - in their last adventure they became the emperor of an alien race. Where can they go from here? Well, they are headed to Hell in the next installment...
5: Improve education:
improve grades, get a better education, learn something new (such as a foreign language or music), study often, read more books, improve talents
This is taken on by a group of people - The Initiates. If they are ever going to stop the Templar Order from ruling the world and help the Assassins keep it safe, they will have to keep an eye on history. So by reading from the history books, practicing their talents and learning all they can, they will save the world and manage their resolution.
6: Improve self:
become more organized, reduce stress, be less grumpy, manage time, be more independent, perhaps watch less television, play fewer sitting-down video games
Yes he’s a villain, but Doctor ‘Eggman’ Robotnik chose to pick this as his resolution. He’s doing away with the robots and gimmicks to get down to some good old fashioned kidnapping-and-turning-into-robots. Okay, so he’s getting rid of some robots. On his voyage to self discovery, he won’t be letting any blue rodents arrive just in the nick of time!
7: Take a trip
A workaholic who loves his job, Rico Rodriguez wasn’t eager to take on a resolution Just Cause (see what we did there?). But when he spotted this one, he felt compelled to take it and go on holiday. He chose an odd place to go - an island peninsula ruled over by a dictator-of-sorts. And he packed his bags full of... weapons… Well, his resolution didn’t say it couldn’t be a work trip...
8: Volunteer to help others,
practice life skills, use civic virtue, give to charity, volunteer to work part-time in a charity organization (NGO)
Normally one working for his own goals, Kain has chosen to have a resolution that doesn’t involve ruling over Nosgoth. To aid him in his resolution, he will be helping out at a series of blood drives.
9: Get along better with people,
improve social skills, enhance social intelligence
As a well known bounty hunter, Samus Aran doesn’t know how to get along with people. Those she speaks to are usually paying her or whom she has captured for pay. So she is resolving to better her standing in her professional field as well as her social circle.
10: Make new friends
Lizard-king Bowser makes this final resolution, because he doesn’t have any. He has kids, subjects, an arch-enemy and a kidnapee, but none amongst them would ever invite Bowser in for a biscuit. Out of all of these, we doubt Bowser the most.
