10 Tips & Tricks for Enshrouded
My wife and I were lucky enough to get to try out Enshrouded together — a survival crafting title where you have to face the terrifying and malicious fog known as The Shroud. Throughout our time surviving, we picked up a few tips and tricks to help you out with your journey through the world! So, without further ado, here are 10 things to keep in mind:
#10 — Nighttime can help you in the beginning
As soon as we began playing, our roles were quite obvious — I went out to do the scavenging and foraging, and she stayed and built us a well-protected home! Well, I bravely ventured off during the first few nights and discovered that there are a ton of animals that die, and finding them is incredibly easy when it's nighttime. During the beginning of the game, you might have an easier time just walking out and finding the glowing blue lights that indicate there's loot to pick up than actually hunting. This is especially true if you want to save your arrows! By scouring the area near our house, I found enough dead animals to keep us afloat in food and materials until I had enough to go out and hunt for them myself! While you're out there looking for the lootables, you might as well collect as many Fireflies as you can, too! Just look out for any dim lighting and head over to it.
#9 — Destroy everything!
One of the things I most had fun with during my experience was wrecking everything in my path. Enshrouded's mechanic of giving you tools to destroy the world around you is very reminiscent of Minecraft, so feel free to mine and bomb any suspicious areas you find during your time exploring the land, as you'll never know what sort of secrets you might find! In addition to cool hidden chests, you might also be surprised at the stuff you can use as materials.
#8 — Save your Lockpicks!
The above tip is very important when it comes to breaking into places! My wife and I discovered that it was better to just make a hole in buildings to go inside than use a Lockpick on the door; keep in mind that if you want to break in, you’re better off hitting the walls, as doors can't be destroyed. This tip is particularly important since there are some chests you can't open without picking the lock, and you'll regret having used it on a door you could've just bypassed.
#7 — Don't be scared to use your tools
Building on the point above, I was absolutely terrified of using my tools at the beginning; I've been punished for that in other survival titles too many times to count! Thankfully, in Enshrouded, the worst thing that'll happen is that your tools (or weapons!) will become unusable until you head over to a Workbench, where, with just a quick interaction, you'll repair everything! If you're not anywhere near your home, don't worry — you can find some throughout the world at most points of interest if you look closely, and they look like anvils. This is a very important thing to keep in mind so that you may make use of them from the get-go.
#6 — Take an extra melee weapon
Although you won't lose your items if you overuse them, I still suggest you take an extra weapon with you to use as your main destruction tool. Not only will it last longer because you won't be using it for combat (or vice versa), but you also won't have to reconsider every time you find breakables — instead, you'll just smash them and get loot! You could technically hit everything with your fists, but it’ll be quite a while before you break some of them.
#5 — Get all the fibre possible!
Speaking of doing useful things from the start of your run — forage ALL the bushes you can! As it turns out, my incessant foraging of everything and all that crossed my path taught my wife a very valuable lesson: you can never have too much fibre. With Plant Fibre, you can craft String, which allows you to make everything from building and decor to armour and pivotal items, like the Glider!
#4 — Don't forget to equip items!
One of the things I most liked about Enshrouded was that you can equip a long-ranged weapon and take it out of your action bar, as you'll need all the space you can get to use on food, weapons, and items (such as bombs!). Once you do, you'll be able to use it by pressing Q; this quick and easy access really helps during unexpected battles or when you find something to hunt! And while we’re on the topic of action bars, it’s never a bad idea to have one for weapons and another one for tools!
#3 — Prioritise Honey
It took me a while to try to forage Honey because I was scared of the bees (listen, I've had bad experiences in games with them). When I finally did, I found out that Honey is the best way to fight off any issues with Stamina! If you eat it, you'll get a temporary buff that will make it fill up at a much quicker pace, and that came in handy when my wife and I needed to mine for long periods of time. So, if you know you hate stamina systems, stock up on all the Honey you can find early on! And if you’re scared of bees like me, just keep a torch handy — they hate fire!
#2 — Disrespect the dead
One of the materials you don't have as much control over farming is Bones, though you can get some through hunting animals. But if you keep an eye on your surroundings during your time adventuring, you'll find corpses littering some areas, and if you smack them, you'll get Bones!
#1 — Revisit areas
One of the things my wife and I noticed is that every time we went into the server again, things would respawn, including chests and overworld items! This means that if you know of a particularly good spot for, let's say, Cloth, then you would do well to go back to it when you revisit the server or notice that things have respawned. This is good for farming anything from Bones to Metal Scraps. And don’t sleep on any chests, as their loot is randomly generated, so if you didn’t get something good the first time, it doesn’t mean you won’t ever!
That's it for my helpful article! I hope that these little hints help you have a smooth journey. Don't forget to check out my wife's preview of the game to get even more info on Enshrouded!
