Creepy Road Review

Creepy Road Review

Everyone can be a hero, from the little kid at the end of the lane to the grizzled trucker just trying to make his way from job to job. Flint Trucker is one of those two things, pretty sure the second option, and he must save his darling Angelina from a world gone mad in Creepy Road.

CR SelfieZombie

Coming to us from Groovy Milk, not only does this game dev clearly have a sense of humor, but it's also great at naming things. For their first outing, it appears, this game is a wonderful start. Zombies and monsters? Check. Adorable violence and cute smoke clouds shaped like skulls that appear when your enemies die? Check. World gone to hell in a handbasket and yet is somehow colorful and cartoony? Oh Check. This game is perfect for this time of year.

It starts off simple you follow Flint through the swamps to try and reach home, picking up various weapons and power ups long the way. Beware of the warthogs with baseball bats and the unicycle-riding rabid circus bears with party hats, especially the bears. Apparently down the road there will be flying pandas and elephants… well then I guess we’ve seen everything! There are people still out there too, and they’re as friendly as everything else has been so far. So look out for the ravenous farmers, raging selfie takers, and pirates, I think. Kind of guessing on the last one, but hey, if the world’s coming to an end, why not have pirates.

CR IntheForest

Flint starts the game off with a handgun that appears to have infinite bullets. As he runs this side-scroller, other weapons will appear in his path and it’s super easy to switch between them and other special items he can get such as Molotov cocktails and grenades. Creepy Road is not complicated, and that’s one of the best aspects. It isn’t easy, though, as some enemies will come faster than others, and the bosses are a bit unforgiving. There is a bit of a learning curve when it comes to the boss fights, but the game does warn you about what you’re getting into beforehand. As long as you pay attention and have a little bit of patience, you’ll be golden.

Groovy Milk focused on the right things for this title, giving us a working game that looks nice and is easy to play. By not making Creepy Road too complicated - giving it basic controls and a side-scroller bullet hell aesthetic - they were able to make the enemies challenging and give us a game similar to Cuphead, with fun visuals and an interesting story. There isn’t a need for too many bells and whistles, as sometimes those can end up detracting from the game and the experience.

CR PandaDivebomb

All in all, this game is funny as hell and so disturbing at the same time, definitely one that I highly recommend. I would even suggest streaming Creepy Road as it’s a great single-player title that will absolutely keep people entertained and interested. The mixture of cute and gross is fantastic, and honestly, I kind of want some of the villains in stuffed animal form… especially the rabid circus bear. Looking for a game that will pull you in and make you forget about the outside world for a while? Consider wandering down this Creepy Road, it’ll be worth the trip.

Creepy Road (Reviewed on Windows)

This game is great, with minimal or no negatives.

Seriously fun and straight forward, this side-scrolling bullet hell is wonderfully ridiculous. I would definitely recommend giving it a go. Divebombing pandas and raging circus bears on unicycles. What more do I need to say, hmm?
