War Thunder Introduces New Rocket Artillery Mechanics with the Sherman Calliope

Gaijin developers have unveiled a new vehicle, the Sherman Calliope for the upcoming 1.49 'Weapons of Victory' update which will introduce a new vehicle type into War Thunder.

The Sherman Calliope features a multiple launch rocket system attached to the top of a regular Sherman tank, with the players having to launch the rockets first before they can fire the main gun. The vehicle is set to be in Tier II of the US tree as a premium vehicle (i.e. needs to be bought using Golden Eagles premium currency, which is obtained through cash purchases)

With the Sherman Calliope, this is the first time the developers have included rocket artillery in the game as playable vehicles, and it should be interesting to see how the game mechanics will work out.

Opinions among player base still seem divided as of now, with some players excited about the hype while others have concerns over the balance, as well as the fact that spending players have a big advantage over free-to-play gamers.

Will this pave the way for more of such vehicles, such as the Sturmtiger and the Katyusha rocket trucks? We shall see ...
